On Tuesday, 25th February 2025, the Newham Parent Carer Forum (NPCF) hosted an online Coffee Evening, attended by 26 parents and carers via Zoom. The session focused on discussing improvements to the Newham Local Offer website, ensuring it remains accessible, user-friendly, and up-to-date for families with SEND children.

The session was chaired by Yamou, with Adeola managing housekeeping, and Rosie and Madhuri taking minutes. Guest speakers included Sheila Begum (Newham Council – SEND Local Offer Commissioner for Children and Young People) and Nana Poku (Newham Council – Early Years Strategic Systems and Data Lead), who provided insights into the Local Offer Refresh and Update.

Key Discussion Points

Parents and carers shared valuable feedback on the content, accessibility, and usability of the Local Offer website. Concerns were raised about outdated information, difficulty navigating key resources, and limited promotion of the platform. Many suggested making the website more engaging and inclusive while ensuring that essential services and funding details are easy to find.

In response, the Local Authority (LA) highlighted their “100 Days Challenge”, which aims to review and update the website by May 2025. They also encouraged parents to share their input to help shape future improvements.

Looking Ahead

This Coffee Evening was a valuable discussion, helping to identify practical ways to enhance the Newham Local Offer for SEND families. NPCF will continue working closely with the Local Authority to ensure the necessary updates are implemented.
